Stress and productivity are closely related. High levels of stress lead to a decrease in productivity and poor quality of life. South Africa's yearly loss, as the result of stress, amounts to millions of Rand in terms of medical costs, absenteeism, accidents and poor productivity. Negative stress also results in poor motivation and decreased exuberance. Approximately 75% of all illnesses can be regarded as psychosomatic and can be directly or indirectly related to excessive stress. Research indicated that more than a third of South Africans experienced excessive stress. During the past 10 years there has been a significant increase of 36% in the stress level of South Africans.
